Develop composition & realistic painting skills in this 8 week class.
This class is for students who've studied the basics of paint mixing and application, but want to create more dynamic and impactful compositions with impressive depth and realism.
Get the best of both worlds working from photos & life
Utilizing photo references allows work to be done both in and out of class time, while direct observation brings a depth of color and variety of edges the camera can't see.
You'll use small sketches to experiment with designs and color palettes in preparation for larger projects. The number of works created will depend upon each individual student.
Learn How You See
Our eyeballs are always on, yet we're rarely aware of how things actually appear to us. A large part of this class will focus on learning to perceive your own vision, how it shifts with light and movement, and how to bring this into your paintings.
Explore Color Palettes & Schemes
Be deliberate with the pigments you choose to place on your palette and the colors you include in your composition. You'll learn not just how to follow a generic color scheme, but how to orchestrate hues and tones to support the design.
Create Realistic Paintings
One or more finished pieces will give you the opportunity to push your painting techniques and achieve convincing depth and form on canvas. You'll learn how hue shifts and edge control looks even more real than a photo, with textures you could reach out and touch, and dimensional negative spaces.
